A cat in Moldova was caught smuggling pot into a prison, The Department of Penitentiary Institutions said Friday. Guards became suspicious when they noticed an odd looking collar on the cat, which routinely entered and exited the prison through a hole in the fence, according to ABC News on Oct. 18.

When the guards inspected the collar more closely, they found two packets of marijuana attached to it. Officials believe someone in the nearby village of Pruncul enlisted the cat as a courier to supply inmates with pot at the prison.

This isn’t the first case of using a cat to carry contraband into a prison.
In June, guards caught a cat smuggling cellphones strapped to its underbelly to inmates in Penal Colony No. 1, located near the city of Syktyvkar in northern Russia.

And if feline mules aren’t strange enough, just this August cell phones were discovered being pirated into a Mexican prison, hidden inside the coffin of an inmate’s dead mother.

The casket was being brought into the jail in order for the prisoner to pay final respects, a practice allowed there when a parent or child passes away.

There was no word on what the fate of the cat in Moldova was, nor if authorities identified any of the human accomplices involved.

Moldova is located in eastern Europe, sandwiched between Romania and the Ukraine, just northwest of the Black Sea.
