Chisinau, January 29. /MOLDPRES/. The European Union will earmark 1.2 million euros for development of organs transplantation in Moldova. A project on the matter was launched in Chisinau today.
A resident twinning adviser, Patricia Sanchez Rico, has told journalists that the project would last two years. The money will be transferred to improve the legal framework on transplant, so that the concerned operations be carried out in line with European standards.
At the same time, Moldovan physicians will make probations in EU states on acquisitions of organs, transplantation procedures and post-transplantation monitoring.
Health Minister Andrei Usatii said that about 800 persons were in need of kidney, liver or heart transplantation in Moldova. Presently, 22 patients are scheduled for kidney transplantation, and another ten for liver transplant. A transplant operation of this kind is estimated at 450,000 1,200,000 lei (25,000-67,000 euros).
