Liverpool middleweight Anthony Fowler booked his place in the last 32 of the World Championships in Almaty, Kazakhstan.
Fowler booked his place with a convincing win over Moldova’s Victor Carapcevschii.
The 22-year-old dominated the bout against his inexperienced opponent, moving into a clear lead after the first two rounds before easing down with his place in the next round all but assured.
Scotland’s Joe Ham also moved through in the bantamweight division with a clear 3-0 victory over Turkmenistan’s Yakub Meredov.
But also at 56kg there was disappointment for England’s Gamal Yafai and Welshman Sean McGoldrick, who suffered unanimous defeats to Armenia’s Aram Avagyan and Venezuela’s Yoni Pacheco respectively.
