Passenger traffic at Europe’s airports up 5.3% during February

BRUSSELS – European airport trade body, ACI Europe released its traffic results for the month of February, across the European airport network. Europe’s airports saw an overall increase in passenger traffic of +5.3% compared to February 2013.

EU airports registered a welcome increase averaging +4.1% – with almost all national markets reporting healthy growth, including in those countries most affected by the recent Sovereign debt and economic crises. At non-EU airports, passenger traffic grew by +9.6%, with Iceland, Turkey, Ukraine, Moldova and Israel growing well above this average. Aircraft movements for the whole of Europe reported an increase of +2.5%, reflecting a moderate yet uneven increase in airline capacity being put into the market. Meanwhile, freight traffic also posted positive growth at +3.1%.

Airports welcoming more than 25 million passengers per year (Group 1), airports welcoming between 10 and 25 million passengers (Group 2), airports welcoming between 5 and 10 million passengers (Group 3) and airports welcoming less than 5 million passengers per year (Group 4) reported an average adjustment of +4.5%, +6.6%, +5.3% and +5.1% respectively when compared with February 2013.
