Chisinau, April 4. /MOLDPRES/. Prime Minister Iurie Leanca and World bank Country Director for Ukraine, Belarus and Moldova Qimiao Fan today signed an agreement between the Moldovan government and WB on financing development policies, amounting to 30 million dollars, the governments communication and media relations department has reported.
The document was approved by the WB board of directors on 28 March 2014 and is aimed at backing Moldova in carrying out the agenda of structural reforms and stimulating the economic growth, by improving the business environment, promoting stability and development of the financial sector, upgrading the fairness and efficiency of public expenses.
This is the first operation in terms of development policies, which is a component of the WB partnership strategy with Moldova for 2014-2017. The next operation, with the same value, is scheduled for the second half of this year.
Iurie Leanca appreciated the WB support to implement the Moldovan development projects. He highlighted the importance of the assistance provided to enhance economic competitiveness, minimise social risks and promote ecology projects in Moldova.
The projects within the above-mentioned strategy amount to 450 million dollars, of which 250 million dollars will be provided by the International Development Agency (IDA) and 200 million dollars by the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD).
Since 1992, when Moldova joined the WB, the IDA and IBRD, parts of the World Bank Group, have financed 49 operations, with the overall commitments amounting to more than 1 billion dollars.
